Marketing Campaign For The 2012 Nissan Versa Kicks Off

2012 Nissan Versa image
As the 2012 Nissan Versa sedan arrives at dealerships nationwide, the automaker is launching the multi-platform “Most _____ per dollar” marketing campaign. The campaign will focus on how the car outperforms the competition in a number of crucial areas.
Elements of the campaign include a new “First Person” digital experience designed to bring the best-in-class roominess to life. Providing an immersive experience using iPad 2 gyro technology, viewers are placed inside the Versa.
“Unlike other automakers that have built mobile applications constrained by platform and device limitations, Nissan is one of the first to deliver an immerse, browser-based experience leveraging the gyroscope technology,” added Brancheau. “Though optimized for iPad and iPhone, it can live anywhere from desktops to tablets and even Internet TV. Rather than just talking about best-in-class interior space, digital proves it.”
Additionally, Nissan will also include a number of interactive social promotions, including an innovative way to take fans on the road with the new Versa Sedan.Facebook users can create their own trips by selecting their routes and inviting their Facebook friends to come along. They can then submit their trip, tell Nissan why their online journey should be made into a real one, and share it with their social networks.
“Our target Versa buyers, in their mid-to-late ‘20s, are in unique places in their lives and careers – which are sometimes tumultuous as they settle into first real jobs,” said Brancheau. “Their financial priorities and new time commitments make being with old friends who have dispersed to other cities a strictly online endeavor. The ‘Versa Road Trips’ campaign gives them a chance to get reconnected in person and relive old times, bringing the online offline.”

Nissan Leaf Coming to Chicago This Fall

Today, Nissan Americas officials joined Gov. Pat Quinn and representatives from the City of Chicago to announce the Illinois rollout of the all-electric Nissan LEAF for this fall. Nissan has accelerated the launch of Nissan LEAF in Illinois in response to strong consumer demand and supported by plans that include an extensive electric car charging network in Chicago and surrounding suburbs in the coming year.

“Governor Quinn, Mayor Emmanuel and other visionary Chicago-area leaders have paved the way for mass market adoption of electric cars in their community,” said Scott Becker, senior vice president, Administration and Finance, Nissan Americas. “Chicagoland consumers want a transportation solution that uses no gas and produces no emissions, and the introduction of the Nissan LEAF to Illinois makes that a reality.”

In February, Gov. Quinn announced an investment of $1 million in capital funding to install state-of-the-art charging infrastructure for electric cars throughout the Chicagoland area, matching an additional $1 million in Clean Cities Grant funding secured by the City of Chicago. In total, the project will result in a network of 280 electric vehicle charging stations. Illinois also offers up to $4,000 in rebates after the purchase of electric and alternative technology vehicles – in addition to the $7,500 federal tax credit – making Nissan LEAF even more affordable to Illinois residents.

“Illinois is laying the groundwork for electric vehicles, and our efforts are paying off,” Gov. Quinn said. “By investing in electric vehicle technology, both the State of Illinois and Nissan are making transportation in our state more efficient, sustainable and affordable.”

”Nissan’s entry into the Chicago market is exactly what the city had in mind when we developed our EV infrastructure plan,” said Karen Weigert, Chicago’s Chief Sustainability Officer. “With the 40 Level 2 charging stations to date already installed, Chicago is well on its way to having the most robust EV infrastructure in the nation.”

The City of Chicago working with 350Green helped spearhead an aggressive EV infrastructure plan that called for 73 DC quick-charging stations and 207 Level 2 stations to be installed at public parking garages, grocery stores, tollway oases, etc. by the end of 2011. Thus far, 40 stations have been installed and, when complete, the system will provide the Chicagoland area with the most extensive infrastructure for electric vehicles in the U.S. [Source: Nissan News]

Nissan Cube Corners The Market For Low-Cost Cool

2011 Nissan Cube image
The inimitable Nissan Cube has struck again, earning further recognition that not only is it one of the most dramatically designed vehicles on the market today, but it’s also one of the most affordable.

This includes being named to the annual “Coolest Cars under $18,000” rankings from the auto mavens at Kelley Blue Book’s KBB.com. Vehicles making the list had to be fun to drive, fun to own and rate highly on the the Kelley Blue Book “cool meter,” and that’s an ideal description of the Cube.

According to KBB.com editors, the nifty Nissan’s “squares-meet-circles design theme gets a lot of attention, but the Cube’s attractiveness is more than skin deep, with features like a sliding and reclining second-row seat, an overabundance of head room and a headliner design that mimics the concentric circles created by a pebble dropped into a pond.” The bottom line “is an exceptionally practical and modestly priced car” that will ensure its owners stand out from the crowd.[Continue reading article]

Nissan Leaf Conquers Pikes Peak Hill Climb

Nissan Leaf Hill Climb image
It turns out that the introduction of the Leaf Nismo RC—an all-electric race car that was recently seen running demo laps at Le Mans—was just the start of Nissan’s efforts to electrify the world of motorsports: A production Nissan Leaf recently tackled the grueling Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado and even set a new class record on its way. And while it’s true that the Leaf was the first, and is still the only, production EV to master the course’s 12.42 miles, 156 turns and 4,721-foot increase in elevation, the feat remains an impressive one. In fact, the Leaf’s time of 13 minutes and 17.55 seconds was faster than scores of gasoline-powered competitors.
“The Leaf was great fun to drive up the mountain” said its driver, Chad Hord, who also happens to be a veteran off-road racing champion for Nissan. “With the instant torque from the electric motor we were able to jump out of the many slow corners and the performance was very consistent from the bottom to the top since the electric motor wasn’t affected by the high altitude near the summit like the gasoline-powered cars.”
And remember: Except for safety modifications to the interior and a more aggressive wheel/tire setup, the record-breaking Leaf was just like the one already on sale in select markets across the country, where it’s also capable of achieving the equivalent of 106 mpg city/92 mpg highway/99 mpg combined, while delivering an EPA-certified all-electric driving range of 73 miles.
